Illustrated cotton tote bags

Storytelling

United Spanish Latin American Welfare Centre commissioned an original illustration for a tote bag to celebrate Aged Care Employee Day, recognising the people who care for older Spanish-speaking migrants in Australia.
The aim was to create a meaningful gift that expressed gratitude while reflecting the community United supports.

The concept

For many people growing older far from their home countries, family and familiar connections aren’t always close by. Aged care workers become part of an invisible but essential network of care, companionship and support.
I wanted to make that invisible network visible.
The illustration features a Latin American woman knitting the word gracias (thank you), using a simple, familiar gesture to represent the connections that help hold a community together.

30 cotton tote bags delivered

From paper to product

I developed the illustration using my traditional watercolour and ink technique, bringing warmth, character to the scene.
The final artwork was reproduced on 30 cotton tote bags, turning a message of gratitude into something tangible that employees could carry and use in their everyday lives.
