Every summer on my family’s farm, the cornfields stretch endlessly beneath a dry, unrelenting sky. No rain for months; just heat, light, and resilience. One afternoon, standing between the rows, I imagined the plants themselves feeling it too.
So I drew a corn plant, sweating under the sun, wiping its brow with a leaf, standing tall despite the weather.
What began as a playful sketch turned into a small story about endurance and humor; a reminder that even the simplest subjects can carry emotion and personality. That’s what I love most about illustration: the way a line, gesture, or expression can turn observation into character.
I worked loosely with pencil and ink, using warm tones to echo the heavy summer air. The expressive pose brought the drawing to life: a character that’s both weary and full of heart.
This piece captures what drives my work as both an illustrator and branding designer: finding stories in everyday moments, and giving them a face, a feeling, and a voice.
