My sister is a nutritionist, yoga instructor, and Ayurvedic medicine advocate — a true believer in the power of herbs. She’s endlessly curious about how plants heal, experimenting with extracts, teas, and her own blends.
I call her “la loca de los yuyos” — the crazy herbs lady.
Buenos Aires 2022 – Hand-painted with watercolour and ink on watercolour paper Arches 150g, A4 size.
Her maté tastes like lemon myrtle, coconut, and ginger. Her kitchen cupboards are full of turmeric, cloves, and carqueja. If you’re not feeling well, she’ll hand you a steaming mug of something earthy and golden, insisting, “Drink this — you’ll feel better.”
In this illustration, I drew her stirring a huge pot with a wooden spoon, her hair rising and swirling into the steam — part alchemist, part kitchen sorceress. I photographed the drawing surrounded by the real herbs she uses every day, merging the imaginary with the tangible.
This piece celebrates curiosity, care, and a little creative madness — qualities that often guide my own work.
It’s a portrait, but also a story: a character study built from scent, movement, and love.
