This animation was inspired by a popular Instagram trend where people shared videos of the ‘comprotodo’ utes, the old, rusty trucks that drive through Latin American towns announcing what they buy or sell through distorted megaphones. I decided to create my own version and bring it to life through animation.
I illustrated the scene using ink and watercolour, capturing the swaying brooms, stacked egg boxes, and worn-out mattresses that fill the back of these trucks. The result is a tribute to a familiar sound of daily life across Latin America, noisy, charming, and oddly comforting.
Poetic text written during my literature workshops:
Siesta time at any place in Latinamerica. 🚚📢
A distorted voice interrupts the siesta promising to buy and sell everything. The ‘comprotodo’ advances slowly, observing if someone waves at them, offering an old fridge or is interested in a big potato bag. In their ute, the brooms swing next to a car battery whilst the egg boxes lay on an old mattress.
